The High School Volunteer Group tries to expose students to a wide variety of volunteering experiences. We try to find opportunities in our own community, as well as surrounding communities and in the downtown metro area – collectively serving an array of populations. Volunteering is a positive, rewarding experience. This group’s goal is to introduce as many students as possible to these experiences. Volunteering is also required for many scholarships, college applications, etc.
Students are welcome to join the group anytime throughout the school year, and may participate in as many activities as they choose. We try to do a number of projects – most of which are a one-time commitment. You choose which projects you want to volunteer for. There might be two things all year you are interested in, or there may be 15 – it’s okay to volunteer as much or as little as you want.
The Volunteer Group is open to all 9th-12th graders. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month in the Cafeteria during Focus.
At the meetings we talk about possible upcoming projects…it is best to attend a meeting to get the details. If you can’t attend one of the meetings, the sign-up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board (located downstairs by the weight room), and you can sign-up on those.
Past/Possible Projects: Pumpkin Carving with elementary students, Trick-or-Treat for the Food Shelf, Raking Lawns for Senior Citizens, Salvation Army Toy Shop, “Unstuff the Bus” (KS95 toy drive), Gillette Children’s Hospital - crafts with patients/siblings, collecting Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald Houses.
