2014-15 got off to another fast start. This year our schedule changed from the traditional five day rotation to a six day schedule. The addition of a full-time technology teacher now allows us to provide an additional day of technology instruction for all 590 children in the building. This will help us better prepare our children for the computerized state SMARTER Balance Test which students in grades 3-4-5 will be taking this spring. The technology position also provided an opportunity to greatly reduce the number of “double sections” in Physical Education and Music that we have had for several years. The classes effected by the six day cycle include Music, Physical Education, Art, Media, and Technology. Music and Physical Education meet three times for 25 minutes and the others meet once for 50 minutes during the six day cycle.

Staffing changes are in abundance at Malone this year. Nine new teachers were hired this fall along with several new educational assistants. They are quickly changing the landscape of Malone as they bring their own backgrounds and experiences to our school.

The Malone Parent Committee (MPC) continues to play a critical role in the culture at Malone. They continue to put on several family activities (Back to School Bash, Casino Night, The Holiday Shopping Spree, Sock Hop, Carnival, etc.) throughout the entire school year. Their active support continues to pave the way for multiple initiatives that benefit our students. Each fall and spring the dads help the school out at Dad’s Day…a day which saves our school countless hours of annual maintenance. The MPC Teacher Grant Program supports our staff in getting many additional things which can benefit the classrooms. Any/all profits from MPC activities are funneled right back into the building. They have been instrumental in helping us with our technology and playground initiatives over the years.
