Boys and Girls Non-Competitive Basketball (3rd – 4th Grades)
- Registration takes place in early July.
- Practices are on Wed nights (some Saturday AM or Sunday PM practices may be added at the coaches discretion)
- Begins late Oct and runs through early Dec.
- Teams are broken up based on grades and gender.
- Teams play in three meets in local communities on Saturdays, with each meet lasting 2 1/2 hrs in either the morning, early or late afternoon. These meets are noncompetitive with the coaches on the floor giving instruction and helping referee. No score is kept.
- Website for the Great Northwest Basketball League is www.gnbl.org
- This activity is developed as a stepping-stone for our traveling basketball program, which starts at 5th grade.
For 4th Grade players that wish to extend their basketball season:
4th Grade Pioneer League
The Great Northwest Basketball League offers an opportunity for 4th graders to play in some more “competitive” meets in surrounding communities. It is NOT mandatory.
How it works:
- All participants MUST be registered for the “non-competitive” league in order to play in the Pioneer League.
- All who are interested MUST fill out the additional Pioneer League form and turn it in with their non-competitive registration in September.
- In January and February, those who filled out the Pioneer League registration form would be able to play in two additional meets against other fourth grade teams and “lower” fifth grade teams. (3 competitive games per meet with score being kept and referees). We would need a minimum of eight kids signed up to get a team in the Pioneer League. The cost would be divided among the players, and would range anywhere from $15-$24 depending upon the number of players signed up. Exact dates or locations of the meets will not be available until mid-November.
- Practices for this extended season will be similar to the non-competitive season (Wednesday nights and some Saturdays or Sundays) and will run until the last scheduled tournament.
- The meets would be more competitive with officials, scoreboards, fouls and time being kept.
- Once again, this is NOT mandatory. It’s just an opportunity for our 4th graders who might want to play a longer basketball season. With that being said, parents need to understand that the level of competition in the Pioneer League will be much higher and might not be suitable for everyone.
