This notice is provided by Prescott School District that the district must collect, retain, and use information about individual students in order to provide appropriate educational services and programming. The District acknowledges the need to safeguard student privacy and restrict access to personally identifiable information. Student records shall be available only to students and their parents/guardians, eligible students, designated school officials with a legitimate educational interest in the information or to other individuals or organizations as permitted. The School District of Prescott, pursuant to the U.S. General Education Provisions Act, declares the following as “directory information,” and that information relating to students may be made public if said information is in any of the following categories:
- Student’s name, address, telephone number
- Date and place of birth
- Photograph
- Major field of study
- Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
- Weights and heights of members of athletic teams
- Dates of attendance
- Degrees, awards and honors received
- Name of School most recently previously attended
This public notice is required by law before such information can be placed in yearbooks, student directories, school web pages (only students’ first names, pictures (no close-ups), activities, and student work may appear on the district web page), and other publications. Any parent of any student in the district may notify the principal of the school in which student attends (within 14 days) of the parent’s desire that none of the above information be released. If parents and eligible students do not submit such
written notification, directory information may be utilized for in district-wide publications, cable TV station, website, social media, or other communication method utilized by the district.
