General Statement
While state law does provide for the transportation of students, this does not guarantee that under all conditions a child will be transported. We want a safe, clean, well_regulated bus; those who cause trouble must be curbed. Because the driver must give his/her attention to driving, requests and orders must be obeyed. If a student feels he/she is being discriminated against, a complaint along with details should be brought to the building principal who shall investigate and hopefully resolve the matter.
Riding Regulations
- Follow instructions of bus driver or others in charge.
- Be on time, walk to and from the bus, remain in your driveway until bus’ red lights are on, stop arm is extended, and clear signal is given by the bus driver to board.
- Do not possess or use alcohol, tobacco, drugs and/or weapons; no gambling is allowed.
- Respect each person and all property; no profanity, no rough-housing or verbal abuse will be permitted.
- Cooperate with the driver, stay in seat, keep head, hands and feet inside the bus.
- Do not eat or drink on regular routes; please help keep the bus clean.
- Playing radios, tape recorders, etc. without using headphones is prohibited.
- Refrain from any disruptive behavior which presents a safety problem.
Discipline Procedures
- The first violation - the driver will give the building principal written notice of the offense. The building principal will send it to the parent of the student; the slip must be signed by the parent and returned to the building principal the next day. The building principal will meet with the student and take discipline action as deemed necessary.
- The second violation will be followed by the driver giving the principal written notice of the offense. The principal shall meet with the student and take discipline action deemed necessary. A parent conference (or phone contact) will be requested to inform and review the problem with the parent. A copy of the violation notification will be mailed to the parents and the principal shall also inform them that any further violation may result in removal of bus riding privileges.
- The third violation may result in suspension of bus riding privileges, for up to three days. Written notice to that effect will be given to the parents or guardian. Riding privileges will remain suspended until a hearing between the principal, student, parent/guardian, and bus driver is held to determine future action. SUSPENSION OF THE STUDENT FROM BUS RIDING PRIVILEGES WILL HAVE NO BEARING ON HIS/HER ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL.
- Additional violations will result in suspension of bus riding privileges. Riding privileges will remain suspended until the superintendent convenes a hearing between the principal, parent/guardian, student and bus driver to determine future action. SUSPENSION OF THE STUDENT FROM BUS RIDING PRIVILEGES WILL HAVE NO BEARING ON HIS/HER ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL.
- The bus driver will be responsible for determining what constitutes a violation of the rules. Whenever the administration feels that the violation is of such a flagrant or violent nature so as to endanger the other riders, or prevent the safe operation of the vehicle, he/she may proceed directly to another step.
- Three copies of violation notices will be made by the building principal. The original should be sent to parent or guardian while copies shall be retained by the bus supervisor, principal and driver.
- None of the above procedures shall preclude the use of any other discipline measure by the school administration.
