League Selection

In most cases, the Traveling Baseball teams will compete in the Metro Baseball League (MBL) – a competitive community based league that includes teams from across the Twin Cities Metro Area and parts of Western Wisconsin. However, PCR reserves the right to place a team(s) into a different league that may be better suited for the younger or more developmental teams. PCR is aware of the sensitivity around playing in different leagues. Therefore, if this occurs, PCR will notify the parents immediately to discuss the reasoning behind the decision and a full refund would be available if desired.

Coaches Clinics

It is mandatory that all head coaches and assistant coaches attend at least two of the scheduled coach’s clinics. Those who cannot attend due to personal or work related schedules should contact the PCR Baseball Commissioner immediately upon notification. It is also recommended that parents attend these clinics as well. Dates and content of the clinic will vary from year to year based on availability.

Players Clinics

PCR is endorsing the following player clinics. These non-mandatory clinics are a great opportunity for your child to enrich their experience within the program and are strongly encouraged for you and your child to attend:

  • Annual High School Baseball Clinic - mid May timeframe
  • 4th-8th Grade Baseball Clinic – Usually 2nd week after summer break

Look for these dates on your annual registration form.

Team Selection

Teams are split up by grade level. The number of teams per grade level will be determined based on the total number of sign ups. The MBL offers leveled play (AAA, AA, and A) at all age groups (11s, 12s, 13s, and 14s). Because of this, player skill evaluations will be held to determine team rosters. Whenever possible, outside evaluators will be secured to assess player skills. Coaches may also be asked to evaluate, however, they will not be used to evaluate the grade they will be coaching in the upcoming season.
It is important to note that PCR is acting strictly within the best interest of the entire group of players. This approach may not always align with an individual parent’s viewpoint. Only under unique circumstances will PCR reserve the right to ask players to play up or down a grade level, permitting the child falls within the required age range, parental consent, and that the child goes through the evaluation process to determine skill set. This process will only be considered in situations where the current numbers of the teams in question are not at an ideal or manageable size.

All participants will be evaluated and assigned to a team based on their grade and skill level. At that point, it will be determined what level of play to assign each team (AA or A), and potentially what league is best suited for that particular team. Skill levels and participation numbers range from year to year, therefore, PCR reserves the right to make decisions on what is best for the kids on a case by case basis.

Player Evaluation Date

The player evaluation date will be on your registration form. If any player is unable to attend, you will need to notify the Traveling Baseball Commissioner as soon as possible. An alternate date will be determined for those who cannot attend the main date. This make-up date will also be used for call backs in the case where evaluators need an additional look at some players to determine that final rosters for each team.

Practice Dates

Practice dates will begin in early April, pending weather and/or gym space availability.

Regular Season/Playoffs

Regular season games begin in early May and go until mid-July. Each team will play approximately 16 league games prior to playoffs, with approximately half of those games being played at home. Playoffs then start in mid-July and may go through late July depending upon individual team performance.

Tournament Play

Annual Spring Field Clean Up

All parents not coaching are required to assist with the Annual Spring Field Clean Up. This date usually falls on a Saturday in April, pending weather. Look for your coach to contact you with the exact date of the Clean Up.
