Collaboration Mondays

The school board has approved 90-minutes of collaboration time for staff each Monday of the school year.  With this time officially being added into the school calendar, extended care will not be provided by the school.  Both centers (Hearts, Hands, & Minds and New Adventures), as well as YMCA have built this Monday time into their fee structure.

4K Families, please note these dates and times for how the collaboration time effects our 4K programming:

Monday: 7:45-10:15AM (2.5 hrs), 11:00-1:30PM (2.5 hrs)

Tuesday-Thursday: 7:45-11:00AM (3.5 hrs), 11:50-3:05PM (3.5 hrs)

Mission Statement

To provide every four-year-old in the community with the opportunity to receive a developmentally appropriate learning experience in a quality group setting.

Benefits of Prescott 4K

Families can participate in the Prescott 4K program at no charge, at any of the three locations.  Centers that offer extended child care services beyond school district sponsored programming will have fees which will apply if you choose to enroll your child.  All children will have equal access to quality enhanced learning opportunities.

Instruction provided by an experienced Wisconsin DPI licensed teacher.

Eligibility

Children must be four years old by September 1 and live within the Prescott School District.

How to Enroll

Complete the Prescott Community 4K Program Registration materials. 4K Registration packet will be available at Malone Elementary School. Please return all registration forms to Michelle Tromberg at Malone Elementary School.

Curriculum

Our curriculum implements the Wisconsin Model Early Leaning Standards. These standards are based on current research and developmentally appropriate practices.

“Second Step” curriculum is used to foster all children’s social/emotional development.

“Get Set for School” a curriculum that focuses on language, literacy and math is used in all 4K classrooms.

Rationale for 4K

Research shows that children who attend pre-k are:

  • More successful during their school years:
    • Out perform peers in reading and math tests at ages 8, 12, and 15
    • Are less likely to experience grade retention or be placed in special education
    • Are more likely to graduate from high school. (High/Scope, Reynolds, Abecedarian)
  • More successful outside of and beyond school:
    • Lower rates of juvenile arrest
    • Fewer arrests for violent offenses
    • Higher employment rate and higher wages
    • A greater likelihood of owning their own home. (Reynolds)
  • Early childhood education saves our communities money.
    • The general effect is a more efficient education system with less pressure on school resources and expenditures. It is estimated that preschool education can save U.S. taxpayers around $7.10 for every dollar invested (High/Scope, Reynolds, Abecedarian)
  • The community approach allows families options in providing quality care and education to all 4-year-olds, regardless of ability or family income. The community approach preserves the health of the child care system in the community while generating additional state funds for the community to education 4-year-olds.
  • Increased number of family activities and opportunities through the community because of strengthened partnerships among community organizations.

Transportation

4K students will be included as part of the K-12 transportation program. A special 4K route will be scheduled in between the morning and afternoon sessions (11 a.m. - 12 p.m.). The centers will have someone at the door to greet and send off students each day.

Current 4K Centers

Depending on space and your family’s needs, children may be placed in any of the following centers:

Wisconsin as a state provides assistance to families in need of financial support to enroll in Child Care Centers.  To learn more and apply.
